As the year's gone on, I've had to consciously remember to write down some of these quotes and there have been SO many more than these. But here's a hodge-podge of some of their silly sayings for you. Happy Tuesday!
1. Third grader, talking about a game called Bubble Football: "You get in a bubble for safety so you don't get knocked up!"
DOWN. You mean down. You just do.
2. Kindergarten student, very concerned about someone else's artwork: "Santa doesn't have a white face, he has a tan face."
Me: "How tan?"
Him: "Like a five..."
3. The same student: "Stockings are for putting in a campfire."
Your Christmas traditions are obviously very confused.
4. Fifth grade girl: "Is is hard to pick things up with those nails?"
-This was about my super short nails. I had just painted the tips white. She came to school with fake nails the next day.
5. Another Kindergartener (you can tell they're my favorite) - within minutes of meeting me: "Can I tell you something? I have two crushes in my class (whispers in my ear) ***** and ****. But you have to pinky promise not to tell."
I did pinky promise so I can't divulge those names. Sorry.
6. Sixth grade girl, very seriously: "I wish we had more time in here... Then I wouldn't have to do anything in class."
Wouldn't that be a rosy-colored world.
7. Second grader, trying to figure out how to post something on the wall: "I have an idea!! How old are you? Lift me up! That was a good idea, huh?"
Apparently my old age qualified me to be able to help him out with that one.
8. Another second grader: "Do you know how to spell your name?"
Does it seem like I would have this job right now if I didn't?
To his credit, his last name is probably 15 letters long.
9. Two fifth grade boys, who very much resemble Huckleberry Finn in attitude and mannerisms: "Can you keep us? We don't want to go to music class."
Rough.
10. The same fifth grade boy: "An hourglass? Some people put drugs in those. I saw it on a show."
So watch out for that. It's always the hourglass.
11. Again, the same fifth grade boy. A hat trick. "I have a question. What is this class supposed to teach us?"
MARCH. It is MARCH.
12. Goofy second grade boy: "You didn't come pick me up last Wednesday, silly girl."
Oh-ho. Glad you missed your silly girl teacher.
13. Too-cool-for-school fourth grader: "No offense but I don't like your prizes."
What did you expect, Xbox games? Not in the school budget.
14. While playing a following directions game, one of my second graders drew out the "Make your own direction" card. So he promptly came up with: "Dress like a leprechaun and dance an Ireland dance on only the green squares on the rug."
Did I do it? Yes I did.
15. On my classroom rule chart, rule #3 is "Talk During Your Turn." Apparently my third grade boy sees the first letter of of a word and takes a wild guess because this happened:
Me: "What is rule number three? Talk..."
Him: "Dirty to me....?"
HA. No, Jason Derulo did not write our rules. I think I laughed for a full minute about this one though.
16. Another third grade boy (they're on a roll): "My mom and dad forced me to be in a rock band by myself, so I did it. And all the judges held up 10s."
Sounds made up.
17. My personal favorite, from a first grade girl, after she looked around my office thoughtfully for awhile: "Do you sleep here, or just work here?"
Depends on the day! But I'm glad it looks comfortable.
As the ending to this, please admire the translation on the packaging for this Crocodile game:
It HAS been a delight.
Until next time :)
Love,
Becca
